The company
Sun Boats International Exhibitions
Sun Boats organises international art exhibitions in Egypt every few months. Artists from Egypt and abroad send a painting or a work. The team reviews it. Selected pieces are exhibited during the edition week.
During that same week we hold happenings around the country — the Giza pyramids, the Grand Egyptian Museum, the Nile, Minya, Cairo venues. They are part of the exhibition, not a second website about events.
Why the name
The solar boats of ancient Egypt were built to cross from one horizon to the next. Sun Boats takes that crossing as its name. Each edition is a passage: a work leaves a studio and meets Egypt at the scale of its light.
Founder
Ismail Bakr (Esmael Bakr) founded Sun Boats so artists could work in Egypt without turning the country into a postcard. The company is still run as a small, direct organisation: one inbox, one review, one week at a time.
